A group of the local residents who were Bengalis and who were immensely inspired by teachings of Shri Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans and Swami Vivekananda mooted the idea of forming a formal Religious and Charitable Trust with objective of spiritual upliftment among those who believed in these teachings. Thus the Bengali Association was formed. With their untiring effort a Temple dedicated to Kalimata was constructed. Gradually along with the religious and spiritual activities the focus extended to other charitable activities. The association was pained by the hardships caused to poor patients and their relatives who had to visit Mumbai for medical treatment especially for cancer. Therefore the Association resolved to construct a Dharamshala where such poor patients coming from outstation can be provided accommodation at a very subsidised rate. In addition wherever needed, assistance is also provided to such patients. Further it also came to notice of association that many a times it is a big financial burden for poor families to shoulder in respect of hiring marriage halls. Hence the Association decided to minimise the financial burden for such families by offering its premises to such families to hold marriages and other functions. Further for regular medical treatment for locals, the association runs a dispensary at subsidised rate.
In addition the association believes in actively promoting sports, art and culture especially among the children and youth.
Since the formation of the association in 1982, it has been able widen its sphere of activities and to serve the community at large with untiring efforts. The association takes pride that it has been able to retain our cultural heritages and has passed the baton from generation to generation, all thanks to the helping hands of patrons, donors and support from amazing community at large!
