Shivaratri Puja

Maha Shivaratri is dedicated to Lord Shiva and observed with great devotion across Bengal. On this night, devotees fast and stay awake, chanting “Om Namah Shivaya.”

The main ritual is the Shiva Linga Abhishek. Devotees offer milk, water, honey, bael leaves, dhatura, and fruits to the Shiva Linga, symbolizing purification and surrender. Incense, lamps, and mantras accompany the puja. Married women pray for their husbands’ well-being, while unmarried women seek a good match. In Bengal, many temples organize night-long kirtans and special pujas. Maha Shivaratri is regarded as the sacred night when Shiva and Parvati united, and it holds deep spiritual significance for Bengalis seeking strength and blessings.
