Lakshmi Puja

Lakshmi Puja is celebrated on Kojagari Purnima and during Diwali, dedicated to the goddess of wealth and prosperity. In Bengali homes, Lakshmi Puja is done with great sincerity, as she is believed to bless households with abundance.

The idol or picture of Goddess Lakshmi is placed on a clean altar with a white cloth, lotus, and kalash. Offerings include rice, fruits, sweets, coconut, and five types of grains. The priest or family members chant Lakshmi mantras and perform arati. A special bhog of narkel naru, chire doi, and payesh is prepared. Families also light lamps around the house to invite prosperity. In Bengal, Lakshmi Puja represents purity, devotion, and the welcoming of divine grace into the household.
